Full-time position available at KC Water Engineering Division, located at 4800 E. 63rd Street in the following Divisions: Stormwater, Systems Engineering (water distribution and sewer) or Facilities and Plants. . Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Senior Registered Engineer positions are responsible for administrative and supervisory activities managing and engineering multiple projects related to improvements to the water, wastewater and/or stormwater systems. These positions are responsible for professional engineering activities involving the planning, analysis, design, development, construction, renovation, maintenance or operation of utilities, assets and related projects. Work involves activities such as analyzing infrastructure systems, overseeing planning activities, and managing engineering projects including development of construction and/or rehabilitation projects associated with stormwater, water, and wastewater assets. Identifies and develops applications and work standards for improvements and efficiency. Provides assistance in changes to policies and standard operating procedures. Frequent consultation with internal divisions, consultants, contractors, and others stakeholders as required in the analysis, design, review of plans/specification, and inspection of construction work for compliance with prescribed engineering criteria. Assignments are received in conference with a professional superior. Employees of this class are expected to exercise good judgment to resolve technical problems, manage projects, and provide data for asset risk assessment criteria. Responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control of contracts, construction plans, materials, and studies for adherence to Water Services rules and regulations. Writes requests for proposals (RFPs) or quotations (RFQs) for new projects, and prepares emergency response memos. Verifies conformance of the plans and specifications prepared by design professionals, and submits Project Status Reports (PSRs). Reviews submittal materials and related asset data. Performs limited design, as well as drafting and computational duties in the office in preparation of studies, final plans and specifications for projects. Additional activities include proposing changes to the standard specifications; interpreting and applying City ordinances, state and federal regulations, specifications, and related standards to projects; coordinating with multiple stakeholders and the public; and assisting operations staff when issues arise.

Requirements:

REQUIRES 2 years of progressively responsible experience as a registered engineer. Within 6 months of hire date, must be registered as a professional engineer with Missouri Board of Professional Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the City. Preference given to applicants with water, wastewater, or stormwater facility or linear asset infrastructure experience, as well as a minimum of 6 years of combined experience with a minimum of 3 years in a project management role. Several full-time positions available with KC Water Pipeline Division located at 2409 E. 18th Street.  Normal Work Days/Hours: Multiple Shifts Available: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Friday-Monday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. or Weekend Nights: Friday-Saturday, 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 AM. and Sunday, 5:00 P.M. to 5:30 A.M. Works as a skilled crew member in the installation, replacement,  repair,  and maintenance of water disbribution mains and lines, valves and hydrants. Repairs leaks and breaks in existing pressured mains.  Participates in the restoration of work site locations and street surfaces.  Responsible for backfills excavations, restores dirt work, seeds or sods, sets up erosion control measures, tears down and replaces fences.  Replaces landscaping, utilizing proper techniques in minimizing damages to existing utilities. Assists in digging trenches and other excavations. Shores deep excavation. Follows all City policies concerning safety in the work place. Operates various types of motorized construction and maintenance equipment. Operates jackhammer in cutting and breaking concrete, asphalt or rock. Removes waste material from work site. Drives dump truck for hauling construction material. Operates a front-end loader up to 2-1/2 cubic yard in loading sweeper piles, broken pipe, dirt, rocks and debris. Operates crane trucks and forklifts for loading pipe or other materials for construction and maintenance work.  Participates in snow plowing and snow removal operations.

Requirements:

REQUIRES high school graduation and 4 years’ experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance work. Must possess a valid State issued driver’s license in accordance with accordance with City of KCMO policies. Possession of a valid Class A or B CDL prior to the end of the employees probationary period. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination. Preference given to applicant with making repairs to a water distribution system.
